Ordinary Time

25/6/2013

Ordinary Time is far from Ordinary!  During this season of the year - from Pentecost to the Beginning of Advent - we are invited to mediate on the whole mystery of Christ - his life, miracles and teachings.  We do so in the light of the Resurrection.  The vestments and altar frontals are green: the colour of hope and growth.

Ascensiontide

10/5/2013

Between the Feast of the Ascension (9th May) and the Feast of Pentecost (19th May) we observe a period of preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus has ascended into heaven and has promised his disciples that he will send his Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the "ruach" or breath of God.  It fills our lives and we should use this time as a period of self-examination of ourselves before God.

As Christians we are preparing to meet God face-to-face.  We don't know when this will happen but it is our duty to prepare ourselves.

Eastertide

14/4/2013

Eastertide is the period of time between Easter Sunday and the Feast of Pentecost - 50 days.

It is a time of reflection on the resurrection of Jesus and our readings and hymns reflect this period of celebration.  The Paschal Candle, which was first lit on Easter Sunday, stands in front of the altar - a timely reminder of the light of Jesus Christ in our lives.

The readings that are used concentrate on the appearance of the risen Jesus to his disciples.

This is a season of celebration for us.

Alleluia! - Christ is Risen!

Welcome!
